  • unknown lump on cat

My 7-year-old cat has a lump on his hip that seems to have appeared overnight. The lump is hard and doesn't seem to move at all when touched. It doesn't seem to hurt my cat and he doesn't mind when we touch it. Anyone have any idea what this might be?

My vet is famous for saying "a lump is a lump is a lump" meaning that a lump could be anything at all. You can only be sure what it is if it is biopsied. I think a HARD lump is more serious ... but I am really not sure about that at all. I know older dogs and cats often have tons of soft fatty lumps and they are usually nothing to worry about.

Let us know what the vet says!

Could be just about anything honestly.

Herniation, Fluid filled cyst (even if it's hard), a small infection from a foreign body (aka a splinter), an insect bite, or many other things.

Get it checked and let us know what happens

To describe the lump a little more... it's about the size of a golfball.

We've called the vet but they're very backed up and can't get the cat in anytime this week unless he's in pain or it's an emergency and it doesn't seem to be either of those. So, until he can go we're just trying to come up with some ideas of what it could be.
