Problems with a cat

For approximately 2 months ago we got a 3 month old cat. The cat was found outside by some of my friend. So I can say exactly how old it is.

We took him in, we had a lot of fun. But there is one problem. Every time his happy and starts prrrrrrr he starts sucking his fur. We are afraid that if he continues like this he will lose his fur in that part and maybe causing later an injury. We tried buying a spray from the local pet shop which is for animals. That didn’t help. We tried holding him. But he is impossible. Especially in the night time when we are going to bed he begins it.

Does any one have some good advice?

You do not say if you took the cat to a vet. If the cat is licking enough to cause sores, you need to have a veterinarian evaluate him properly. It could be that the cat is just grooming itself. A friend advised that if it's purring, you've probably just been petting it. You get your smell all over the cat, so it grooms. However that does not mean it should groom itself to sickness or injury though...

I've saw a cat suck on a persons thumb because they had lost their mother prematurly. I agree with the above post. Take him to the vet if he's causing sores. I'd like to see what he/she says

This is exactly what we think it's wrong with our cat. We called the vet but the only anwser we got is : There is nothing we can do to help you, if it guets injured then you should come with the cat.
There must be something out there that will satisfy the cat's needs. And we can see that the way he is sucking isen't the way he is washing himself. He enjoys it very much.

If you think it will help get him to suck on something else thats not harmfull for him.

I have a 14 old Kitty , taz is her name , she has done this since I found her in a ditch on the highway at 5 weeks . She sucks on blankets , (she has her own) it was always a concern , she never caused any damage to herself , when i took her to the vet , he said , that it was like a baby with a security blanket , should grow out of it < ya right , she didn`t , she seems to do it when she is just going to sleep , purring like carzy and sucking , always has done it and does not seem to hurt her , after all she is 14 and in great health.But like i said if she was causing injury to herself , would take her to vet....
