  • Apso: Shakes non stop... and dark tarry stool

HELP me... I think I will die of anxiety myself.

My Apso is 8 years old... recently I noticed she was a lil slow and trembling.

When she is sleeping and lies "she shakes... i mean her whole body trembles"

And just a while ago, when she went out... i followed and she did her toilet... and it was "Black, Tarry Stool" (not solid... )

I will take her to VET tomorrow... anything i should do or ask in particular ?

Help... i live in Nepal / Asia

    Mike

Can you take her today? Black, tarry stools are not normal. The black color could mean internal bleeding in her digestive track. See if she will take water. Can you cook her some white rice? It is easy on her digestion and may help until you find out what is wrong. Is the stool just dark, or is it black all the way through?

"Dark, black, tarry stool, indicates digestion of blood, and a possible blood loss in the small intestines. "

The quote above is from an article found here:

    Good luck. Let us know.

Ok, that is probably better. The darkness is not necessarily a sign of illness, but if it is very unusual for her, then something could be wrong, so keep your vet appointment.

Is the dog still shaking? If not, maybe something she ate made her sick and she will be ok.

Our dog had stools like the ones you are describing and when we got her on a food which agreed with her, the stools became a great consistency.

At this point I am more concerned about the shaking.

damn... it's like 3 AM in the morning... and I cannot SLEEP at all. :(

But thanks to Internet and you "rita" I'm feeling a lot better.

Well she is sleeping near me... and right now she is not shaking / trembling

it's almost like... periodic thing. (happens in every 20 or 30 mins)

I shall rush to VET tomorrow... scared here !!!

Definitely take her to vet...but if she is shaking less than before, it could turn out to be something she ate, or symptoms of a treatable illness.

Just be sure to give as much detail as possible to the vet.

Good luck. She will probably be ok, just keep her close so she can relax and not shake so much.

P.S. Be sure the vet checks the temperature. Infection/temperature could cause the shaking.

Well I took her to VET... and turns out she has a very "HIGH FEVER" ... something like 104.8

No wonder she was shaking and eating was off... the VET gave her a SHOT, injection... and now her body is much more cooler "i felt her stomach area"

As for the stool... he said wait till tomorrow, if she is very runny... then only give Anti biotic (3 day course).

Anyways, now she is running and even BARKING (her loud voice never sounded so musical to me ears... he he he)

But she did drink loads of water... and ate Carrots, cucumber and water melon.

              Thanks... Gsoul

I am so glad she is doing better. Did the vet say the source of the infection?
Glad you could get her into the vet in time. You are very welcomed. I did nothing but maybe help you keep your sanity, but that is important when our doggies are ill.

I think my doggie is lil better... it must have been something she ate + the high fever.

well she is kinda greedy :)... so whenever i open a plastic bag or rustle some wrappers... she would come running.

And after 4 days of lying around... she has finally started her "rituals" he he he

By the way she hasn't done any of those "stools" lately.

                  :)

                        Now... a lil question (again...)

Well although she has stopped shaking & trembling... no such runny stool.

"Softy" (that's her name :) ) is not eating properly.

and not sleeping... i mean she is sitting up in that "Sphinx" pose.

You know... as if she has "insomnia" or something.

Is that because she is weak? Though she responds to calls and barks.

Did the vet say why she was sick when you took her in?

What does your dog usually eat? Before you mentioned fruits and vegetables, but does she get plenty of meat as well? If she will not eat meat,
                          then I would be concerned.

Were you able to take her for a follow-up visit to the vet after her illness?

I don't know why she would not be sleeping. That does not sound right.
Maybe someone else can post and help you with that.

i would echo rita on this - we really need to know what the vet said as any advice here could make things worse for her.

Well... apparently she is suffering from "stomach infection"

He came today and gave her 2 shots... (i was not at home, so my sister was telling me... vet will come tomorrow, for round check up)

Softy is very stubborn and won't even take pills... first it's hard to pry her mouth open and impossible for her to sallow the medicine.

hmmm... well, she is weak... that's for sure!!!

She has been eating little... what can we do ?
