So i learned on another thread that in africa, poachers firstly gun down rhino and then they poison the carcass, which in turn kills hundreds of vultures. The poachers then sell off these vultures to the Muti industry. It was a very heartbreaking thing to read. so i decided to feed the beautiful rhino in the zoo near my house (one red and one yellow apple, i was not able to find a green apple near my house).

I just watched your video shahkarhan and I thought it was very informative. I didn't realise poachers poison the rhinos after to target vultures. It's quite sad really.

Are you freely allowed to feed the animals at Lahore Zoo? If you are, I'm sure it would be a very cool experience to feed them.

Thanks for watching the video. And yeah people are allowed to feed deer and monkeys etc, but animals such as lions and bears are kept under strict control.

And coming back to your point, there was an elephant named Suzi in lahore zoo. people were allowed to feed Suzi and were even encouraged to give Suzi money. She died unfortunately.
There are talks of bringing a new elephant to lahore zoo. the new elephant was supposed to arrive at the zoo in sept 2018 but we are still waiting for its arrival. And since the ticket is only 0.29$ and the fact that my office is around 100 fts away from lahore zoo, inshaa ALLAH i will be able to cover the entire story.

I see, it makes sense that you cannot openly feed the lions and bears, but it is certainly interesting many of the other animals are free to be fed. I would hope guests give them food which is not going to be harmful to them :)

I must keep an eye out on the news when Lahore Zoo are able to get a new Elephant. And I'm sure I'll be able to watch a great video that you create when it happens.

Bringing this thread back to its original topic, I did some reading about Vulture's being targetted by poachers. If anybody is interested, here is an exert from an article I found which goes into some more details.

However the booming illegal trade in ivory and rhino horn is also bad news for them, as poachers don’t want hundreds of circling vultures pointing authorities towards recently-killed elephants or rhinos. Poachers are therefore deliberately targeting the birds by lacing carcasses with poisons – even after they’ve left with the tusks or horns. More than 500 vultures were poisoned at a single poached elephant carcass in Namibia in July 2013, and the recent discovery of at least 26 elephants poisoned at cyanide-laced water holes in Zimbabwe will also likely result in many vulture deaths.
