Terrible cat killing

Are you aware of the recent horrible news from Latvia? A young man, one of most famous snowboarders in Latvia, amuses himself and a friend of him by feeding little kittens to his dog. The snowboarder was Dins Danne, the other one – Andis Riksa (Andis Rikša). To the shocked witnesses he explains that the dog and the cat always have been the enemies, so this is the right way to raise the dog as a strong and brave one. “Others should be thankful to us, since we free the society of vagrant cats,” they add. Later they decide to say to policemen that some unknown strangers have thrown the cat into the mouth of Din’s dog.
Interestingly that in 2001 Dins tried to be elected in the Latvia’s capital’s – Riga’s – council (Rīgas domē) and was in the “Jaunā kristīgā partija” party (The new Christian party).
So, how do you think – will they be punished? Or maybe all they get will be some probation and… that’s all, end of story?

This is a horrible thing to hear about. People are sick, espically when they don't see what they are doing is wrong. Which he obviously knows it is since he told the police it wasen't him. I did remove the link to the story for two reasons, the board is mainly english so I don't think anyone here or very few could have read it and also because it was fairly graphic and people here have expressed their dislike of graphic links so the link was not a benefit to the post.

This is a sad situation and may the world someday realise how important it is for use to care for the animals that share this planet. Unfortuantly many religions don't help this out look with talk of humans being the higher spiecies and animals being there for our wants and for no other reason, "he who lies down with dogs wakes up with fleas". I've laid with my dog many times and never feared nor got fleas. This is unfortunatly the way the world is these days. Its why so many great people are fighting to change that outlook and why there have been some wonderful changes over the last thrity or fourty years. May they continue.

Yes, and something else very sad with this story - there start to appear many people saying "nothing special, what difference does one cat make? we are with you, Din!" - so it's possible the murderers won't get the punishment.

That is a terrible thing, it makes me sick to think of how heartless people are with animals. Does anyone know where they got these kittens?

Too terrible, last week I see a local news to about an student who grab the cat's tail and throw her then he stepped on her. Later that day the cat died and the student even wrote that on his blog. Hope the student got sanctions, some people are sick.
