Hi I would like to buy a appaloosa horse from a friend, but I want to know what it is worth, He is going to be register, two year old gelding, green thanks

It really depends on where you live and what breeding this horse has. if he has proven bloodlines he would be worth more. He might be worth more in New York than in Kansas. It really depends. A green 2 year old horse around here in the New York country area would cost about $2,000- $3000.
(with average breed lines). -

I'm an appaloosa owner and breeder. If you will post his sire and dam's names then I can look him up and see what his pedigree is like. Appaloosas value vary greatly depending on the bloodlines. For example I purchase two seperate yearling fillies last year. The first is a a grandaughter of three different champion horses and her value was much higher then the other yearling filly who did not have as many well known horses in the pedigree. But a basic green broke two year old here in NM is averaging about 800 to 2000 maybe. Value at that ages is more based on bloodlines, conformation and potential as the horse really has not DONE anything in life yet.Comment

I'm having difficulty finding the pedigree information on the horses.
Rainbow spice has his sires information but nothing on his dam listed. His sire is a nicely bred QH However alos has a couple traces back to Poco Bueno. Unfortunately Poco Bueno is considered to be a carrier or the originator of a serious genetic disease Called HERDA. the disease is a recessive trait and may NOT show up in allhorses, but some horses could be carriers so you should consider looking into. MOre informatin here

Wow thanks for the info thats great that he has some great bloodlines I read up about the Hc, that is horribly what it does, from what I read I think it depends on how much of Poco is in him. I read some letters from people that raise some granddaughters of poco and they said they have never seen a case of Hc. I have a question for you with the new info that you have found how much do you thinks he is worth in the state of maryland . thanks again for the wonderful info.

The Appaloosa breed in generall really has a depressed market at the moment so a horse with good like like this is not going to be as expensive as if this same horse was a QH with similar good lines. I'd Guess with out seeing him that the average expeced price for a horse his age and breeding would be 2000-3500. However that may be different in your area as I live out west there Appaloosas are shunned by many people and are difficult to sell here. I purchased a 14 year old brood mare from a world champion stallion and out of a daughter of a world champion for only $1250. The mare was broke to ride AND a proven brood mare. I also bouthgt a yearling whos sire had TWO wolrd champion parents and whos mother had one world champion grand parent. I bought that filly for $1450 at the time she just turned a year. So prices are highly speculative and hard to tell. The best way to tell average prices is to go to an auction OR look in the local news papers and See what OTHER horse of similar age and training are going for in your area.Comment
